android top 10 apps
Yeah I know another top 10 list....

I have updated the list as my needs and device have changed, as well as more apps have been added to the google play store.

I know that these lists are very subjective and most likely what one person (author) thinks is a must have.

So I will be adding my top 10, the apps that I think will help improve the usefulness of your new!! or older android smartphone.














Maildroid

Ok the first app in my list is Maildroid, i've been using Maildroid for years and with the latest updates is still my favorite for handling my email.


Lets go over the pro's
  • Feature rich with lots of options for rules.
  • Multiple email's, imapi, pop, exchange and custom server support
  • Updated look
  • Not a drain on the battery
  • Combined inbox main page (see all emails on one page), so love this feature

  • Features may overwhelm some user's
  • Price may be high for some
  • No swiping through emails

    Stocard - Rewards Cards Wallet

    If you're like me and have well over 5 loyalty cards taking up sopace in your wallet, why not remove them and put them in you digital wallet? This app does just that and does it without being complicated and overwhelming.

    Nova Launcher

    Home Screen replacement, This is a must have and you may not even know why? Let me fill you in, do you find having four icons on the launch bar not enough? or even the ability to add more themes? If you answered yes to any of these then you need Nova Launcher. I have tried a few home replements and as far as I'm concerned Nova Launcher is by far my favorite.

  • Up to 5 dock pages, so you can put 7 icons on 5 docks to have a total of 35 applications on the dock alone.
  • fast and stable
  • Lots of options to choose from
  • Backup settings

  • You will want the paid version for all the features. but I feel it's worth every penny
  • No changing landscape home screen size, it's locked to the portrait screen size

    Transparent Clock & Weather

    Ok I have tried a few weather and clock widgets and once I found Transparent Clock and Weather I knew I found a winner. It has some great themes and uses very little resources for a widget.

    Barometer Plus

    It took me a while but I found a great Barometer app, I love the gui and it does what it say's.

    Solid Explorer File manager

    When it comes to searching the file system I have tried a few of the apps out there. I was a user of ES file explorer but have now found myself using Solid Explorer now.

  • Copying files is much easier, just flip your phone to landscape and copy back n forth
  • Add-ons
  • Connects to networks like local network, FTP and more
  • Great search function

  • I have no compliants, it does what it does very well

    Folder Sync
    folder sync

    Now folder Sync is an app i use to keep folders and content synced that are not included with android. like documents and other personal files. You can sync with most cloud services and your own cloud storage like nextcloud. best part is that folder sync allows you too sync everything if you want.

    SoundHound

    No big surpirise here, Just a must have to search and find that song you hear and can't remember the name of. My favorite part is the ability to send the results to either Twitter, SMS or a few others. I tend to just send all my finds to Twitter.If available it also shows all the lyrics. I love the app so I use the paid version.

  • Supports sending results to mutiple accounts
  • Accuracy is very good, my results are about 1 to 40. missing 1 out of 40
  • Easy to use
  • Shows lyrics right in the app

  • would like to see a way to save searches to the sd card for backuping up and restoring

    Remote Desktop Client
    beautiful widgets

    Have you ever wished you could access your home computer from anywhere in the world? Well I did and then came the part of looking for an app that did this on my Android. Well after trying out a few remote desktop apps, I found Remote Desktop Client. All I can say is wow! it just works and has more settings than a Swiss army knife, From resolution to sound to keyboards. It does it all and does it very well.

  • Default settings work right out of the box
  • Lots of settings to tweak
  • Good instructions from the developer on how to setup, look here
  • very stable

  • So far my only complaint might be the price, as 24.99 as of this writing might seem high, just keep in mind this is a top shelf app.

    Fuelio: Gas log & costs

    This is a must have if you like to keep track of your cars mileage and maintenance, I've tried a few and Fulio is my favorite.

    These app suggestions are nothing more than my favorites, they may or may not work for you.

    So many new apps are coming!!

    It has been reported that android just hit 30,000 apps. Yeah i know it's still way behind the iphone, but I do suspect that this number will double by christmas. The way I look at it is you can install an application from bluetooth, usb, download from your phone and more, so it will make other sites pop up as time goes on to sell apps.

    Just read an article that even AOL is getting in on the android app business and has developed 2 apps already. ;-) Yeah I know who is still using AOL. L0L
